Home-Start Manchester is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Home-Start is part of the Big Manchester partnership which is a Barnardos-led project team consisting of staff from Manchester MIND, Change Grow Live and The Pankhurst Trust (Incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid). The project works with families affected by poor mental health, domestic abuse and/or substance mis-use.

BActive Mcr is a Sports England funded project, delivered under the Big Manchester umbrella. As part of the project team consisting of 4.5 FTE staff, Home-Start is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator. The post holder will be responsible for supporting and managing a team of volunteers who will provide mentoring support and/or group support for families wanting to become more involved in physical activity. This is a fantastic opportunity with access to the support and expertise of the wider Big Manchester partner organisations.

Experience of supporting and managing volunteers; alongside a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject is essential.

A working understanding of the needs of families with complex issues and experience of working collaboratively with partner organisations is also essential. Experience of working with volunteers in a sports-related field would be desirable.

The hours of work are 18.5 a week (worked flexibly) including weekend and evening work. The post will involve some work from home, in the Manchester community and from the office in Ardwick.

Disclosure and Barring Service check (Enhanced Level) will be required.

Funding for this post is secured until mid October 2021.
